Re: suggested plugins. Given that Dashboard is primarily based on WebKit, wouldn't it be possible to copy Dashboard/associated frameworks from an Intel mac on to the ATV?
i was thinking about adding a bittorrent plugin to the apple tv. since azureus, one of the most full-featured and customizable BT clients out there, is open source and written in java, it probably would not be difficult to install a java runtime on the apple tv, then make a customized, slimmed-down version of azureus. i have a basic understanding of java, and i could try to help out as much as i can with this. we should definitely try this.
I would imagine something like transmission would just work perfectly without needing to be altered?
good idea. perhaps someone with some experience in xcode could even write a transmission plugin for tv, making it more user friendly.
Just a question and don't take it the wrong way but I don't get the reason for wanting or needing to run bittorrent client on ATV. Isn't BT simply a file transferring protocol? One that from my admittedly limited exposure usually tops out at somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-100Kbs?? I guess I just don't see the upside to this when you can usually jump onto a usenet server and transfer at 8+Mb/s. To me, transferring anything even nearing DVD or HD content would be the equivalent to watching grass grow.
