Just a little suggestion for the "Getting the patched ATv to do more" section:
I'm not a huge fan of programs that do very simple tasks and charge for them. The Symbolic Link utility currently listed is ''shareware'' (not freeware), and all it does is run the ln command. There are two options I suggest. 

;Option One
:Open Terminal on your trusty Mac and type
 man ln
:Everyone should understand this command anyway, it's important! Besides, as a "Beginner", one step towards "Intermediate" is to figure out useful commands.

;Option Two
:[http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17655 This little Contextual Menu utility] is much more appropriate for what it does. It performs its function well, and fits my budget.

== Beginners Guide for Windows ==

First of all congratulations!
Very nice discription.
I know that lots of time and work has apply to develop the "Beginners Guide", but I do not have a Mac to perform the intructions.
So I keep looking for a way, simple and with all that kind of detail, to use, based on a Windows, the task/tips/orientation.
The main point is run video and subs at the ATV / Joost or a similar video site.
I´ve just got the ATV 160Gb V1.1 (that I will have to downgrade to V1.0 in order to performe the guide)

== Safe Mode to Create Patchstick ==

Hello, and thanks so much for this great resource.  Using a Patchstick to mod my ATV following this article worked exceptionally well.  The only thing I had to do differently was boot my Intel Mac into Safe Mode (shift key at startup) to get the Patchstick script to run successfully.  When booted normally, the script was unable to change the partitions and unmount the volumes at the tail end.  This made the Patchstick useless for booting the ATV.  For whatever reason, my system would not let go of the USB drive, saying the volumes were still in use.  Maybe antivirus software or something was in the way, but when in safe mode: no problems.

Out of curiosity, did you run the script as root? sudo should have given you the permissions to unmount, etc. [[User:XPRimNT|XPRimNT]] 18:05, 2 January 2008 (CET)

I did indeed run it as root.  Strange, I know.  This problem was on my MacBook Pro.  I tried it on my Mac Pro tower, and had not problem (i.e. didn't need to safe boot).  Oh, well. --[[User:Boybert|Boybert]] 06:22, 27 February 2008 (CET)

== Leopard patchstick ==

I want to add a section explaining exactly why this is. I want to add such a section because I don't know the answer to this very question. This presents a problem.

Reading between the lines it appears that the problem is that the patchstick consists of a number of files taken from the OS X install disks. Am I right in assuming that the files on the 10.5 install disks are the problem? IE, the operating system isn't causing any problems, it's that the patch files aren't there any more, or don't work.

Is that accurate? Can someone be more specific?

ATV uses a stripped out version of Tiger. The Patchstick just puts some stuff back. If the files are taken from Leopard, they don't work, as they're incompatible with Tiger, &  therefore, ATV.
