This guide describes how to install the Jaman plugin on your AppleTV. The plugin is only tested on the latest version of the Apple TV software (currently 2.3.1).

With the Jaman plugin, you can sync and watch your Jaman movies on your Apple TV. Jaman Player uses the same model as iTunes. You first download a movie from Jaman to your machine using the Jaman Player. The Jaman Player then syncs the movie to your Apple TV. On top of that, you can import any video into the Jaman Player, and it will happily sync the file to your Apple TV. This is a very easy way to play any video file on your Apple TV, without having to copy or share it on a network drive.

Get Jaman Plugin on Apple TV

  • Create a patchstick on a USB thumbdrive using ATVUSB-Creator. Follow the instructions on their site to create the patchstick. You can choose any package to be installed (ssh, binutils, SoftwareMenu or Boxee, it doesn't matter).
  • After the patchstick is created, ATVUSB-Creator automatically unmounts the USB thumbdrive. Re-mount it by taking it out and sticking it back in your USB slot. You should now see a drive called PATCHSTICK in Finder/Explorer.
  • Download the Jaman plugin from jamantv-2.3.1.zip and unzip it. You should see a single jaman folder.
  • Copy the jaman folder to the PATCHSTICK drive. You should put it in /payloads/patchstick/packages. If that folder is not there, copy it to /payloads/patchstick/plugins. Your patchstick should look like this:

  • The USB thumbdrive is now ready to patch your Apple TV. Follow the ATVUSB-Creator instructions:
    • power down Apple TV
    • insert the thumbdrive
    • power up Apple TV
    • wait for boot/patching
    • power down
    • remove thumbdrive
    • power up

You should now see a Jaman Movies plugin in the main menu.

Syncing Movies

  • Start Jaman Player
  • From the menu, select Tools -> Configure Jaman TV...
  • Select your Apple TV from the bottom list and click Add Device. Enter any name and the serial number of the Apple TV. If you don't see your Apple TV in the list, make sure that your Apple TV appears in iTunes. If iTunes can't see it, then the Jaman Player can't see it either, and you probably have a problem with your network.
  • To sync a movie you've downloaded from Jaman, click Options and then Transfer Movie Rentals.
  • To sync any other video, just import it into the Jaman Player (File -> Add Movies or drag-and-drop the file in the Library tab).
