These instructions, taken from forum posts, do not work for me. Seeing how I compiled them, I'm pretty sure they're either inaccurate or incomplete (or both). When attempting to ssh, I get <tt>ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host</tt>. If anyone would be so kind as to fix these instructions so they work, it'd be appreciated.

Whoever edited the page to merge my Kerberos framework fix into the main text, thanks very much!

Also, I changed Tyler's wording to make it more clear. Unless there's good reason (like what I changed is inaccurate), don't paste his instructions verbatim from his forum post. Keep it clear when the the user needs to put stuff in the OSBoot partition (as opposed to your own drive) to cut down on questions later (unless you're saying he means to actually put stuff in your Mac's /System folder). Like I said these instructions don't work for me, so if that's what I'm doing wrong, someone should specify that you install these scripts on your own machine. Otherwise, leave in <tt>/Volumes/OSBoot</tt>

I've deleted some old text here from "Dincio" that was a plea for help, since it was written back before I fixed the instructions (he was losing because he was using sshv2 without the kerb framework fix).

Are the first three steps necessary?  I installed sshd following the later steps and skipping the first 3, and was still able to ssh into the appletv.

And yes, the firewall is off by default on the ATV, so the steps for that weren't needed.

The first three steps are used to "delete" every firewall rules: maybe the firewall on the AppleTV is off by default. --Dincio 20:34, 25 March 2007 (CEST)

Similarly, deleted text from "Mrfett" (correct instruction, wrong trerminology, but already in the revised instructions).

After three days I figured out my problem. I only thought of the solution after using the Finder to look at the files (I had been using the terminal previous to that). I noticed that my sshd file wasn't being classified as a UNIX shell script, but was being called a "Document". On a whim, I used <tt>chmod +x sshd</tt> to strip the owner, and voila! it worked. I'm extremely happy. I don't know why I seem to be the only person who experienced this problem, but whatever. Hope this helps someone. --Mrfett

Mrfett: I thank you very much. I was totally stuck right in the beginning doing the SSH install. I will make your additions to the article right now to make it easier for others.--pretzelmonster 22:03, 17 April 2007 (CEST)

I contacted one of the maintainers of OpenSSH and they said the project was 'dead',but referred here for a mirror of the final version. I haven't tried it out myself yet though. Jschuur 16:47, 24 May 2007 (CEST)

Whoever edited the page to merge my Kerberos framework fix into the main text, thanks very much!

Some edits to this (the "talk") page: I've deleted some old text here from "Dincio" that was a plea for help, since it was written back before I fixed the instructions (he was losing because he was using sshv2 without the kerb framework fix).

And yes, the firewall is off by default on the ATV, so the steps for that weren't needed.

Similarly, deleted text from "Mrfett" (correct instruction, wrong trerminology, but already in the revised instructions).
